DAY 3 OF AYSPP 2017: VISITS AND SEMI FINAL

Today, the execution of AYSPP entered the third day with two main agendas, namely the company visit and also the implementation of a social business competition attended by twenty semi-finalists from all over ASEAN. There were absolutely no significant obstacles encountered today, so that the implementation of the two agendas was counted smoothly.

The activity held on September 17, 2017 began with an announcement regarding the rules and format of the race that would be implemented in the semi-finals. After that, it continued with breakfast and mobilization of participants towards the first company visit location, namely Mandiri Craft by the Independent Disabled Foundation. Mandiri Craft is a wooden handicraft business that is produced and managed by people with disabilities to help people with disabilities to stay productive. From this place, participants learned how to manage a business by integrating social issues in the business center.

While at the second company visit location, ViaVia, participants learned a lot about sustainability. The theme of sustainability can not only be applied to the surrounding environment, but also to the management of their business so that it is not only short-lived, but can provide results for a long time and sustainably. Both from Mandiri Craft and ViaVia, participants were asked to use the knowledge learned from the two visits in the presentation that will be carried out by each team in the semi-finals.

After returning to the hotel and having lunch, participants immediately began judging the semi-final stage in the form of a closed presentation. The judges present included:

  1. Jonathan Chang (Executive Director of Lien Center for Social Innovation, Singapore Management University)
  2. Susli Lie (Head of Investments,  YCAB Foundation)
  3. Drs. Hendrie Adji Kusworo, M.Sc., Ph.D (Lecturer, Social Welfare and Development FISIPOL UGM)

Twenty teams of participants took turns in presenting their presentations well, however, there was a change in the added time allocation to accommodate question and answer sessions with the judges. This question and answer session was proven to be able to help the judges in the assessment and provide feedback on each party. At the end of the judging, all participants were gathered to hear the closing from each judge.

Ms. Susli in her closing speech said that the majority of the team forgot to mention why their solution was the best, so the team should have understood and mentioned the sustainability of their respective teams. While Jonathan Chang urged the participants to keep calculating expenditure costs better as one of the important elements. Drs. Hendri Adji then closed the evening program with his suggestion to integrate social issues with their business in order to remain in their sociopreneur path.

DAY 1 OF AYSPP 2017: KICK OFF DINNER

In general, today’s program ran very well.

Participants were picked up at their respective pickup location (airport and train station), then taken to the Jogja Plaza Hotel where the registration team had been waiting to check it and record their arrival. Participants check in to their respective rooms and no problems are found. Pick up service was also provided for VIP guests, judges and speakers. There were some delays due to the flight delay, but the LO stayed around so that all the guests arrived at their respective hotels.

In preparation for the dinner, the logistics team had gone to dinner a few hours earlier and made sure everything was ready. All guests and participants were transported to Bale Raos on time and arrived at the restaurant just in time for the welcoming event. All 20 participants could attend the welcoming dinner event, and one team was immediately taken to the restaurant from the pick-up place. Here is the list of guests attending a welcoming dinner:

  1. Mr. Nicholas Chan (workshop speaker)
  2. Dr. Poppy Winanti (Vice Dean of FISIPOL)
  3. Ibu Yuni Praptiwi (Dikpora DIY, on behalf of Governor Sri Sultan HB X)
  4. Bapak Ponco (Ministry of Foreign Affairs)
  5. Visitama17 Team
  6. Ms. Agustina Kustulasari (Manager GEO)

H.E. Djauhari Oratmangun’s flight was delayed, so he could not attend the welcoming dinner.

Dinner began (even though it was a little behind the scheduled time) with a traditional dance performance from the player at Bale Raos. The MC asked the host to give a few words, and then invited a representative from the participants to give a speech; His name was Jason and he was a participant from Vietnam.

The atmosphere at dinner was very pleasant, all the participants mingled well. It was observed that special needs participants received help from their friends to understand what the speaker was talking about. Another team from Vietnam was accompanied by his teacher. This was interesting because it indicates that there were some participants who were still in school attending and appreciating this socio-preneurship competition.

Some things to highlight during tomorrow’s press conference:

  1. This year AYSPP received 470 registrations, twice the first time this event was held.
  2. AYSPP this year welcomes participants from 7 ASEAN member states, and the Indonesian team counts 7 out of 20 semifinalists, this is 35% of participants, which means this year’s AYSPP has enabled more international participants. To 7 countries participating in this year’s competition: Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines, Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand.
  3. This year AYSPP is proud to welcome participants of special needs (deaf). This shows that this competition is open to anyone.

Today’s program was continued in direction for tomorrow’s program.
