LAST DAY OF AYSPP 2015 : VISITATION TO BOROBUDUR, CLOSING CEREMONY, AND AWARDING SESSION.

Hi, Sociopreneur!

Today is the very last day of our program on ASEAN Young Socialpreneur. On this day, the committee organized a short visit to the biggest Buddhist Temple in the World. Yep. It is Candi Borobudur in Magelang, Jawa Tengah.Everybody was very excited as they are about to go on a fun vacation with the fellow-young-socialpreneurs from all over ASEAN.

The Borobudur site itself is located about 2-3 hours ride from the hotel where we stayed. Even though the weather is really hot, everybody are still very excited to enter the site. There, they were accompanied by a tourist guide who tell them the story of the Temple-making, and stories behind every relief that were pictured in the walls of the temple. In the temple-area, the commitees also organized a games for all the participants and their LOs.

After a short-but-fun trip in Borobudur, the participants are having lunch at Restoran Pringsewu which served traditional local dishes.

Coming back to the hotel? Well, not yet. After having their lunch, all the participants are expected to do a last check-up on their traditional performances for the Closing Ceremony. They, then, ushered by the committee to the ballroom of Hotel Santika Yogyakarta to do a sound-check, and stage blocking.

Closing Ceremony and Awarding Session

The closing ceremony and awarding sessions were held in the ballroom of Hotel Santika, Yogyakarta. The ceremony started at 19.00 PM, opened by a traditional dance performed by LokaArt. The ceremony and awarding session was attended by the Dean of Faculty of Political Sciences Universitas Gadjah Mada and the judges for the ASEAN Young Social Enterpreneurship Competition 2015.

The event was opened by a  speech from the Dean of Faculty of Social and Political Science Universitas Gadjah Mada and opening remarks that is delivered by The Project Officer for this program, Rezha Bayu Oktavian Arief.

The fun part has now begin!

All of the participants who are already rehearsing their performance are now ready to perform! There was a total of 6 performances from 5 countries: Indonesia, Malaysia, Phillipines, Thailand, and Cambodia. The cultural performances were very fun as each country showing off their traditional dances, musics, and songs.

Then, here is the most awaited and anticipated moment, announcement of the winner of Asean Young Socialpreneur Competition! Who are the winners?

CONGRATULATION FOR OSIRIS TEAM from Indonesia as the WINNER, AKABA TEAM from The Philippines as the 1st Runner Up, IWAK.ME TEAM from Indonesia as the 2nd Runner Up, and GREENOVATION TEAM as the 3rd Runner Up.

OSIRIS, then, will received the total grant of 2500 US$ from PT Pertamina Indonesia to implement their social business plan. And also, will be given business mentoring sessions for a year from Shell Indonesia. The 1st and 2nd runner up were also rewarded by a total grant of US$1000, whilst the 3rd runner up received a US$ 500 grant. All the rewards  were sponsored by PT Pertamina Indonesia.

Well, everybody must be curious on why the judges choose OSIRIS Team as the winner? We believe that every ideas that has been presented in the competition are unique and very distinctive from each other, but what has made them very special?

Disable opportunities as a part of inclusive opportunities to work. That’s what made the OSIRIS project stands out from the others. They empower a specific group of people, which is people with disabilities. That is proving and opening opportunities for inclusive wealth through inclusive opportunities to work,” said Mrs. Rika Fatimah P.L., S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D (Director DEQPI FEB-UGM).

DAY 4 : GRAND FINAL ROUND & EXCURSION DAY

Hi, Sociopreneur!

Can you believe that it’s already the 4th day of our programs? How time flies so fast, right?

Today will be a very exciting day as we are having our GRAND FINAL Round, where there will be 4 grand finalists presenting their business plan more thoroughly in front of all the judges and participants.

Starts at 7.30 in Multimedia Room, UGM Main Building, the Grand Final round was opened by the AKABA Presentation. This team, from the Phillipines,  also showcase their products which is school bags.

The second team to present is GREENOVATION from ITB Bandung, Indonesia. This team, also, showcase their already-made products which are a newly painted canvas bags, crackers can, etc. It is to be said that all the materials used are waste products. Painting the waste products with a new, unique design, giving them an added value which then, could be sell to the market.

IWAK.ME is the third team presenting. They explain how their project  work, starting from their website (iwak.me), to how then, the money could go to the families that are farming the catfishes in Nganjuk, East Java and who will be helping them in making sure that the families will harvest the catfishes well in just two months.

Last but not least, OSIRIS from Indonesia is presenting their project on Dragonfruit Ice Cream. What makes it interesting is that, they empower the community of disabled people to make the ice cream. So, it’s about empowering disabled and poor community. They also claimed that the Dragonfruit ice cream is a fresh and healthy ice cream as they do not put any added artificial color and the fruit itself, Dragonfruit, is rich with antioxidant.

After the Grand Final round ended, we are proceeding to the next destination, which is Warung Ingkung Kuali in Bantul, Yogyakarta, for having lunch and also meet the owner of one of the Social Enterprise in Yogya, Hoshizora Foundation. The hoshiZora Foundation is an NGO committed to creating an equal opportunity for all Indonesian children to attain a proper education.

The 2nd destination for Excursion is Bank Sampah Gemah Ripah Bantul. Mr. Bambang Suweda as the CEO and Founder of the Bank greeted us warmly in the venue of Bank Sampah. The basic concept of Bank Sampah itself is about collecting waste products, then recreate and make a new product out of it, then giving it an economic value to be sell to the market.

The day ended with Dinner and dance performance of Ramayana Ballet in Prambanan Temple. The beautiful dance was enjoyed by all the participants, leaving them with beautiful memories of Yogyakarta’s rich culture.

DAY 3 : LECTURE ON ROLE OF SOCIOPRENEURSHIP &SEMI FINALISTS ROUND!

Hi, Sociopreneurs!

It’s already the third day of AYSPP 2015, which means….SEMI FINALIST ROUND IS HERE!

Everybody must be getting nervous as on this day, the 20 selected teams will be presenting their social business plan in front of all the judges. But before that, don’t forget that we’re also having an insightful lecture in this morning, presented by Mr. J.S. George Lantu as the Director for ASEAN Functional Cooperation from Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Republic of Indonesia. Mr. George will be presenting about “The Role of Sociopreneur in Overcoming the Problem of Unemployment in ASEAN”. As we are all know, ASEAN Economic Community 2015 as the first step of ASEAN Community 2020 is going to be implemented very soon at the end of this year.

Young people of ASEAN, then, as an agent of change, are expected to help the government in overcoming the challenges and problems that might arises in facing the ASEAN Economic Community 2015, such as unemployment problem. By creating a social business, it is to be hoped that they could open up new jobs for the people and also, overcome social problems in their community.

After the insightful lecture, the participants were ushered to move next to the presentation venue, which is Multimedia Room in Gedung Rektorat Universitas Gadjah Mada. There, the 20 teams were presenting their social business plan in front of all the Judges, Drs. Hendrie Adji Kusworo, M.Sc., Mr. Jonathan Chang, Mrs. Rika Fatimah P.L., ST., M.Sc., Ph.D., and Mr. Arne Hartmann.

 

After all the debate and discussion, we are very happy to announce three teams that will be presenting their social business plan on the GRAND FINAL ROUND, tomorrow, September 19th, they are : IWAK.ME, GREENOVATION, AKABA, and OSIRIS.

Iwak.Me

Iwak.Me build a platform that connects investors and family who manage ponds; filled with fish seeds. It basically connects people who have the resources (funds) but not the time or skills, and the people who have the time and skills but no resources. The profits of the fish farming will then be distributed to the families, investor, and the management team.

Greenovation

Greenovation is an environment-based sociopreneur team which makes a creative use of waste products by using painting technique in an effort to reduce waste and to create more employment.

AKABA

AKABA is a Phillipine-based Sociopreneur which sells bags that are exclusively designed and made from the finest quality of Phillipines  leather. Their social business targetting underprivileged families in the Phillipines.

 

OSIRIS

OSIRIS is a social business team coming from Yogyakarta, Indonesia. They wanted to empower the community of people with disability in Desa Sidomulyo, Yogyakarta by made a new innovation on Dragon Fruit ice cream.
